Kakamega County Water and Sanitation Company (KACWASCO) alongside stakeholders have reached a consensus to approve the company’s review of tariffs.

At a public participation forum presided over by Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, KACWASCO officials said the move was geared towards better service provision and ensure improved supply of the water to the population.

“You must take advantage of the review in ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in water services provision,” Oparanya said while addressing the forum held at Bishop Stam Pastoral Center.

The process was presided over by the Water Services Regulatory Board (Wasreb) and attended by representatives of various consumer groups, national and county government officials, company board of directors and management of the water company.

Oparanya advised on embracing technology by the company in their processes such as digitalised and automatic-metre reading, solarisation and automated financial management systems.

He noted safe water is an essential commodity that should be made affordable to users and therefore other players in the water sector should come together and work on subsidising water service provision to avoid burdening consumers by the various taxes and rates charged by the various players in the water sector.

Presentations by KACWASCO departmental managers on progress of improving water and sanitation services were made providing key gains made by KACWASCO across the years and the challenges experienced that informed the necessity for tariff review.
