Police in Kakamega County have intercepted a large consignment of cannabis sativa weighing 25 kilograms, following a well-coordinated operation in Matungu Sub-County.

According to a report by the National Police Service (NPS) released on Thursday, August 28, 2025, the bust occurred on Wednesday, August 27, 2027, after officers from Koyonzo Police Station tipped off their counterparts at Matungu about a person of interest transporting the narcotics on a motorcycle.

Acting swiftly, police mounted a roadblock to apprehend the suspect.

When the rider approached the checkpoint, officers flagged him down, but he defied the order to stop and sped over a spike barrier.

His motorcycle’s front tyre was punctured, forcing him to stop a short distance from the roadblock. He then abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot, leaving behind the illicit cargo.

Upon inspection, officers discovered 25 kilograms of cannabis sativa (bhang) carefully packed on the motorcycle.

Both the motorcycle and the drugs were confiscated and remain in police custody as investigations continue. A manhunt for the fugitive has since been launched, with police assuring the public that the suspect will be brought to justice.
