By Ndiritu Wanjiru, March 25, 2026Kajiado Senator Kanar Seki has urged the Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare in the Senate to provide a statement on the ongoing construction work at the Bomas of Kenya. The senator described the situation as a matter of national importance, stressing the need to protect the safety and welfare of workers on site.
Appearing before the Senate Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare regarding the ongoing construction project at the Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Senator Seki said that there were reports from workers and the public raising concerns over possible violations of occupational safety and health regulations.
“Concerns have been raised by workers and members of the public regarding safety standards, welfare of workers and possible non-compliance with occupational safety and health regulations at the site,” Seki said.

Seki calls for adherence to legal safety standards
The senator called for a detailed evaluation of compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act, aiming to ensure that the construction project adheres to legal safety standards. His review will include the adequacy of personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as the effectiveness of first aid and emergency response systems.
Senator Seki also asked for a full report on any accidents or incidents that have happened at work since construction began, along with the steps that were taken to fix them. He also emphasised the need for an audit of oversight and compliance monitoring carried out by the contractor and relevant government agencies.

The significance of examining employment conditions, such as contracts, working hours, statutory wage compliance, and social protections for all workers involved, was further emphasised by Senator Seki.
The senator emphasised that worker safety and accountability must continue to be a top priority and urged the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection to act immediately to “ensure compliance and safeguard workers’ welfare” at the Bomas of Kenya site.
