Kabuchai MP Kalasinga: There is foul play in Kibabii University’s Deputy VC’s death
By Mabonga Makhanu, January 25, 2026Kabuchai Member of Parliament (MP) Majimbo Kalasinga has come out to question the events surrounding the death of Kibabii University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Donald Siamba, saying there is possible foul play in his death.
While speaking during a funeral in his constituency, the outspoken lawmaker said the events leading to the professor’s death do not depict natural causes, suggesting that somebody’s hand might have been involved in the death of the educator, who was set to be interviewed for the institution’s vice-chancellor position.
The MP went ahead to label the demise of the DVC as mysterious, stating that there is more to the death of the professor, who, according to Kalasinga, was the only person from their community who had held such a high office at Kibabii University.
He further stated that a day before his death, they had met each other while driving in Musese, Bungoma town, where the professor flashed his car lights to show that he had seen him as he was driving home.
Siamba’s demise
After reaching home, Kalasinga noted that Siamba had his meal, felt a headache, and decided to drive himself to hospital.
However, upon arriving at the hospital and sitting down while waiting for medical attention, the professor reportedly collapsed and died on the spot.
According to the Kabuchai lawmaker, Professor Siamba died similarly to former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, whose death many people still question, with suspicions that it may not have been an accident as it was reported.
“We have mysteriously lost a respected person in Kibabii University, Professor Siamba. We are not going to allow this death to look like that of Cyrus Jirongo.”
“Professor Siamba was happy in the morning; he did his work well, drove himself, and we met in Musese, and when he reached home, he ate.
He later felt a headache and drove himself to Bungoma for treatment. When he sat down at the hospital, he died on the spot,” Kalasinga said.
Scheduled interview
He went ahead to state that the professor was scheduled for an interview next week on January 28, 2025, for the vice-chancellor position, urging the Senate of Kenya to suspend the recruitment exercise as investigations into the death of the professor are carried out.
“Professor Siamba is the only son we had who was going to sit for an interview as the Vice-Chancellor of Kibabii University. His interview letter was for January 28. Next week, he was to be interviewed for the VC position, and then he died today,” he said.
“We are urging the Senate to dissolve that interview process and invite fresh applicants. As we do so, we must know who killed the professor,” he said.
Eulogising Siamba
Leaders from Bungoma County, led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, have also come out to eulogise the academician and express their shock over the sudden death of Kibabii University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
