Justina Wamae challenges Gen Zs to channel protest energy into voter registration
By Mabonga Makhanu, July 7, 2025Former Roots Party deputy presidential candidate Justina Wamae has challenged Gen Z to redirect their protest energy toward voter registration and political participation ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a post shared on her social media pages on Monday, July 7, 2025, Wamae questioned whether those involved in looting were genuine protesters or government-sponsored goons. She expressed concern that the same energy used in the streets could be better applied to voter registration, turning out to vote in 2027, and volunteering as party agents to protect the vote.
“I don’t know if it’s Gen Zs or Goon Zs paid by the government who are looting, but how I wish this energy would have been put into voter registration in 2027, going out to vote as well as volunteering as party agents to protect the vote,” Justina stated.
She further pointed out that Kenya’s main problem is the lack of economic democracy. According to her, this can only be achieved by electing and appointing leaders with sound policies and legislative proposals that create jobs and provide legal income-generating opportunities.
“What we lack in Kenya is economic democracy, which can only be solved by electing and appointing those who have policies and legislative proposals that will create jobs and legal money-making opportunities.” She added.

Sabasaba protests
This comes amid times when Sabasaba protests have intensified across the country, with the police being deployed to counter-protestors.

The protests have turned ugly as police are now forced to use teargas canisters to disperse protestors, leading to a running battle between the police and the protestors.
Many businesses across the country have been looted by goons who invaded the protests, with supermarket owners counting losses. The most notable one was the Quickmart Roysambu branch.
Roads have also been rendered impassable as the protestors have barricaded them with them lighting bonfires as police engage them.
Deaths and injuries have been reported across several areas, with 2 reported in Kangemi. In Nakuru, the Kenya Defence Forces have been deployed along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway as the protests enter top gear.
Raila Odinga, who was expected to grace the Sabasaba 35th commemoration at Kamkunji grounds, but due to road blockage, he decided to issue a statement on today’s events at Serena Hotel, calling for a national dialogue as a step towards addressing the public dissent.
