Junet Mohamed condemns Osotsi assault in Kisumu
Leader of the Minority Party in the National Assembly Junet Mohamed has condemned the assault on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. The attack occurred at Java House, Western Mall, as Senator Osotsi visited a barber. He was airlifted to Nairobi for treatment following the assault.
Junet, posting on his social media accounts, described the attack as “dastardly” and called for swift action against those responsible.
“Those who planned the attack, alongside those who carried it out, must be quickly arrested and arraigned in a court of law,” he wrote.
“There’s no place for violence in our nation regardless of the political persuasions leaders may subscribe to in exercise of their democratic right to participate in national politics.”
He wished the senator a “speedy recovery and return to his normal activities.”

Orengo condemns attack
The attack also drew strong condemnation from Siaya Governor James Orengo. He visited Senator Osotsi in Kisumu before the lawmaker was moved to Nairobi and described the ambush as a “disgusting display of cowardice.” Orengo said it appeared politically motivated and intended to intimidate Osotsi, a key figure in the Linda Mwananchi movement, which opposes the government.
“This is a clearly coordinated and organised pattern of intimidation aimed at silencing the voices of the people,” Orengo said. “It comes as a second direct hit after the violent assault at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel on the eve of our Kakamega rally.”
Orengo warned that staging the attack in Kisumu could have been an attempt to incite tribal tensions between the Luo and Luhya communities.
“These divide and rule tactics will not succeed,” he said, emphasising that the movement is “unstoppable.”
The assault drew attention from Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who confirmed the details on his X account.
“I have spoken to Senator Osotsi’s team and confirmed that he was viciously attacked and injured in Kisumu earlier today when he went to get a haircut,” Sifuna wrote. “The Senator is being airlifted to Nairobi as we speak.”
