Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Ojwang murder probe

This is a subject that is expected to shape the national discourse since it happened.

The probe, conducted by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), has unearthed a number of issues, which have forced the arrests, including that of Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Mr. Samson Talam.

The investigative authority has also confirmed that indeed Ojwang died at the Central Police Station, contrary to what was reported before.

“The deceased died while in custody at Nairobi’s Central police station cells,” IPOA said.

Persons of interest

“The suspect we have. The OCS central station is a person of responsibility as the highest-ranking officer at the station level. We also have other officers and civilians. The investigation has not stopped,” IPOA CEO Elema Halake stated.

IPOA also revealed the possibility of questioning Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat over the same issue.

“The investigations are still live. We want to assure you we are very expeditious. We don’t want to hurry the process. We are making progress, and we commit to keeping you posted and informed on the matter arising,” he stated.

“Yes, the complainant is known. We have not started with the complainant because of certain facts that are very clear. We are sequencing the manner in which we are perceiving the evidence. The decision (whether to question the DIG) will be made at an appropriate time,” Halake added.
