Judge upholds decision to nullify MCA nomination

Narok nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Alice Chepkirui Kering (pictured) has suffered a big blow after the Court of Appeal sitting in Nakuru upheld a judgment made by the High Court to nullify her nomination.

The nullification followed a successful petition by Josephine Seneiyo Torome of Jubilee Party who argued that Kering, who had been nominated by the party, belonged to ODM party.

A judgment by Justice Francis Gikonyo observed that Kering was a member of the ODM party which Nominated her to the Nakuru County Assembly between 2017 and 2022 and was not a member of the Jubilee Party at the time she was nominated to the County Assembly.

She was also not a registered voter in Narok county. The court also found that the MCA failed to inform the Registrar of Political Parties that she had resigned from ODM and only presented her resignation letter during the court process.

The Judge said the nomination to the County Assembly should reflect the diversity of the people of that county and not an outsider brought and imposed to represent the interest of the people she has not interacted with.

The court ordered that Josphine Seneyio Torome, who presented the petition in the magistrate court, be nominated .
