Jubilee seeks to list demands at bi-partisan talks

Jubilee faction of Azimio coalition will soon present a memorandum detailing a list of demands it says must be addressed in the ongoing bipartisan talks.

Jubilee chairperson Sabina Chege revealed that some of the demands will include criminalisation of protests by election losers, who she says must henceforth be held accountable for damage of both public and private property done during demonstrations.

Equitable distribution

“We will be going as Jubilee Party to present what we would have wished to be part of the dialogue and we hope and pray that this will be the end of the shenanigans we have been seeing on the streets. We want our children to be in school, and our businesses to operate smoothly,” said Chege.

She further singled out that the party will rekindle the one man, one vote, one shilling debate to ensure equitable distribution of resources based on population of a certain region.

To avoid the winner takes it all, Chege further insisted that the memorandum will be seeking creation of the Office of the Official Opposition leader.

She was speaking during Gorgeous Technical Institute’s fourth graduation ceremony in Thika, Kiambu County that saw 418 graduands awarded diplomas and certificates in various technical fields.

“We don’t want people who have lost elections to feel like they have lost everything. We want them to continue articulating their opposition issues both in Parliament and Senate,” she added.

Local politicians Albert Mwangi and Nicholas Kiragu rooted for guaranteed minimum return; a price paid by the government to a farmer for an agricultural product irrespective of market conditions.
Minimum return

They maintained that without guaranteed minimum return on coffee, tea, milk, avocados and other crops produced in Central Kenya, the vote-rich region will not be party to the Bomas discussions.

“Bipartisan talks have zero meaning without guaranteed minimum return. We also want to hear about the review of boundaries to ensure that populous regions receive more representation in parliament,” said Mwangi.
