JSC rolls out plan to track judges’ performance and workload
By Kiprono Keileb, February 5, 2026The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has taken a major step toward strengthening accountability and performance in Kenya’s judiciary.
In a statement shared on X on Thursday, February 5, 2026, the Commission said it held a meeting with the Judiciary’s Administration of Justice and Performance Management Committee and consultants conducting a Case Weighting Study.
According to the statement, the discussions focused on establishing a system to track judicial workloads and ensure fair and transparent case management across the courts.

The JSC highlighted the importance of using objective data to improve efficiency and fairness in judicial operations.
“The Judicial Service Commission, led by Vice Chairperson Isaac Rutto, today engaged the Judiciary’s Administration of Justice and Performance Management Committee, chaired by Lady Justice Agnes Murgor, JA, together with consultants undertaking the Case Weighting Study. The meeting focused on deliberations around case weighting, a core institutional reform central to the Judiciary’s performance management and accountability framework,” part of the JSC statement reads.
The Commission stressed that the framework will help manage judges’ case loads and inform key human resource decisions.

“The Commission welcomed the initiative, noting that a credible case-weighting framework will provide the JSC with objective, data-driven tools to support fair and transparent judicial deployment, equitable workload distribution, performance evaluation and long-term human resource planning,” JSC stated.
JSC added that the initiative is part of reforms aimed at improving public confidence in the judiciary and ensuring that judicial officers are fairly assessed and deployed based on measurable performance metrics.
