Cherang’any constituency Member of Parliament Joshua Kutuny has expressed concerns about night tribal meetings allegedly convened by some of his opponents.

Speaking at a public rally in Chebarus area, Kutuny said such meetings are breeding tribal animosity and hatred amongst communities living in the cosmopolitan constituency.

“I want to appeal to all candidates in this area, please avoid holding secret tribal meetings at night in peoples’ homesteads,” Kutuny said.

Kutuny calls for peaceful elections

Kutuny asked locals to avoid such candidates saying their intention is to promote tribal politics and provoke emotions ahead of the August 9, 2022, general election.

“If you want to sell your agenda, go to a public place in broad daylight like I have done. The electorates will listen to you, doing tribal meetings at night is a recipe for chaos” Kutuny warned.

The Jubilee Party deputy secretary-general called on his constituents to maintain peace and during the electioneering period.

“I am not a Member of Parliament of Soy, Kapsabet or West Pokot where people speak on language. Our constituency is highly cosmopolitan that is why we need to be peaceful and do politics with a lot of sobriety” he added.

Kutuny, who is defending his seat, also challenged his opponents to comply with the elections code of conduct.

“We, candidates are guided by IEBC’s elections code of conduct. We should stick to that code to the later,” the legislator quipped.
