Head of the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau John Onyango has been named the new deputy Director of Criminal Investigations.

Onyango, an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) and also the former Nyanza region DCI boss replaces Nicholas Kamwende who has retired. He will deputize Mohammed Amin who presided over the handing over ceremony at DCI headquarters Mazingira Building.

More changes are expected within the National Police Service with more than 20 senior police officers expected to retire this year.

The Nyanza region police boss Manasse Musyoka has also retired and has been replaced by the former commandant of Kenya Police Railways and Ports Commandant, Patrick Tito.

Amin also transferred Sub-County DCI bosses for Langata, Starehe and Kasarani within Nairobi.
Among the senior officers expected to retire this year include AIGs Gideon Ngumi, Philip Ndolo, Frederick Lai, Noah Mwivanda, Bashane Omar and Edward Mwamburi. Others are the principal assistant to the deputy IG of Kenya Police Service Lilian Muli, Nicholas Njururi, Maurice Kiplangat, Esther Wangeci, Joseph Napeiyan, John Muiruri, Charles Naibei, Josephat Kirimi, Jacinta Muthoni Kinywa and Philip Tuimur.

Last year, the government said it was ready to give the necessary support required by the retired officers to enable them participate and work closely with the necessary administrative segments, to foster security and improve safety of the people and their property.
