Johanna Ng’eno’s wife bows out of the Emurua Dikirr by-election race
By Mabonga Makhanu, March 23, 2026Naiyanoi Ng’eno, the wife of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno, has pulled out of the by-election race meant to succeed her husband.
While speaking to the media on Monday, March 23, 2026, the family spokesman, David Ng’etich, confirmed this, stating that after extensive consultations, they decided to hold back the 28-year-old lawyer from immersing herself in the murky political waters that lay ahead.
According to the spokesman, the family resolved that she should continue healing following the devastating loss of her husband, who died in a plane crash in the Mosop area alongside five others after the pilot attempted to fly through bad weather before crashing moments later.

“Ms Ng’eno will not be contesting, as she has been unwell and is still recovering from the loss of her husband. Following this development, we have, after extensive consultations as a family, decided to release her from the rigours of the campaign,” family spokesman David Ng’etich said.
Niyanoi’s endorsement
This comes after Nilanoi Ngeno had been endorsed by a group of elders to contest the seat. It also comes at a time when the by-election had been scheduled for May 27, 2026, with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party primaries slated for March 27, 2026.
In recent days, several aspirants have stepped down, throwing their weight behind a leading contender believed to have strong ties to Ng’eno’s inner circle.
Key allies of the former MP have come together and settled on one candidate, Bernard Ng’eno (Buluu), a former personal assistant to the late legislator, as their flag bearer.
Meanwhile, the race has begun to thin out after two candidates, Ezra Sawe, an employee of the Narok County Government, and Bernard Rono, a county administrator, formally withdrew from the contest.
Gatundu MP backs Niyanoi

This also comes days after Gatundu North MP Njoroge Kururia backed the spouse of the late Johanna Ngeno as his replacement in the upcoming by-elections in Emurua Dikirr.
In a statement shared on his social media pages on Monday, March 9, 2026, the flamboyant MP suggested Ngeno’s widow, Nilanoi Ntuntu, who during the burial promised Emurua Dikir locals that he would remain close to them, be the potential successor to her late husband.
The widow, who is a Maa, which is one of the predominant communities in Emurua Dikirr, appeared to signal the community to rally behind her in her quest to succeed her husband in the MP’s message.
“Sisi Wamasaai tunasema tutachagua Mrs Ngeno, pale Emurua Dikirr.”
