Jeremiah Kioni says attacks on Uhuru are cover for Kenya’s economic pains

Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has defended former President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying recent attacks against him are a distraction from the country’s economic challenges.

In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, Kioni stated that any attempt to portray the fourth President, Uhuru Kenyatta, as a boogeyman would not succeed.

“Attempts to turn our Party Leader, H.E. former President Uhuru Kenyatta, into a boogeyman are a dead end for this regime and those aligned to it,” Kioni said.

He added that the attacks are politically motivated, aimed at diverting public attention from pressing national issues.

“These coordinated attacks are meant to distract Kenyans from economic hardship, corruption, overtaxation, and failed leadership. Jubilee rejects political thuggery and falsehoods and has never sought to destabilise any political party,” he said.

Kioni outlined Jubilee’s strategy for the coming years, emphasising engagement with citizens and building strong party structures.

“As we chart our path for 2026 and beyond, Jubilee is rebuilding through nationwide membership recruitment, transparent engagement with Kenyans, and strategic alliances anchored on good governance and the rule of law,” he stated.

The party has in recent months faced criticism from opposition leaders, who have accused its senior figures of political interference.

Kioni said Jibilee leaders are working in solidarity in efforts to solidify the party base and counter narratives that paint the former president as a divisive figure.

Jubilee’s focus, according to Kioni, is on long-term reforms and ensuring that the party remains relevant in Kenya’s evolving political landscape, while maintaining a focus on economic development and governance issues. Kioni concluded by urging Kenyans to remain attentive to real challenges facing the country and not be swayed by political theatrics.
