Former world half marathon record holder Peres Jepchirchir is disappointed that Covid-19 struck when she was in top shape.

Though optimistic that she will still be able to pick up from where she left after the pandemic, Jepchirchir is not happy that she will have to wait up to September to make her debut at the Boston marathon after it was moved from April.

The Lisbon marathon winner had prepared well for Boston, initially set for April 20 in the United States of America, before it was rescheduled.

“I had prepared well and I was ready for the race before this thing called Corona disrupted the season.

Mark you, I was in good shape,” the former Yangzhou international half marathon winner told People Sport in Eldoret yesterday.

In 2017, Jepchirchir set the world record in half marathon by clocking 65.06 at Ras Al Kaimah (RAK) in the United Arab Emirates and was keen to bounce back to her winning streak before the crisis that has crippled athletics calendar struck.

The Kapsabet-based athlete is now just home doing menial chores with her family as she trains minimally to stay in shape.

“I am just there doing little training for my fitness. I was really ready to bounce back after a sabbatical,” she added.
