Reactions to Gachagua-Karua reunion
The reunion of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Martha Karua who will soon launch her new political party dubbed People’s Liberation Party (PLP), is expected to continue drawing mixed reactions.
Gachagua on Saturday, January 25, 2024, paid a courtesy call to Karua at her Kimunye rural home in Kirinyaga.
Following their meeting, Gachagua confirmed that he would be working with the former Justice and Legal Affairs Minister.
Speaking at the event that brought together the two former political nemesis, Gachagua stated that they had held a meeting in which they agreed on how they will be working ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
He said that his political camp will be regularly consulting Karua based on her extensive experience in politics, public service, and legal matters.
Gachagua further stated that his camp will also work with other like-minded Kenyans.
Gachagua also expressed his gratitude to Karua for hosting him together with his team, noting that he would leave Kirinyaga a happy man for having reunited with his 2022 presidential election opponent.
He expressed confidence that the country would be liberated if Kenyans decided to join hands and work together.
“We have had a good conversation, and we have agreed that going forward we are going to work together with other Kenyans. I want to assure you that many Kenyans are looking for leadership. We will work together with like-minded Kenyans, patriots, and people who care for this country. We shall benefit a lot from her counsel; we will consult her regularly alongside other Kenyans of goodwill so that we liberate this country,” Gachagua stated.

Kenya will today face off with New Zealand at 9:14 am in the HSBC SVNS 9th Place playoff match.
Kenya on Saturday, January 25, 2025, managed a 26-21 win over the United States to book the ninth-place final spot.
The Americans were the first to score when Adam Channel made his way past the Kenyan defense line, and his first try and a conversion gave them a 7-0 lead.
Shujaa‘s superstar Patrick Odongo scored the first try for the East Africans, and a conversion that followed brought the game to par with a 7-7 scoreline.
Kenya scored their second try through George Ooro, but a missed conversion meant that the lead was not stretched far with Shujaa enjoying a 12-7 lead just before the second half break.
Ooro earned his brace when he was set up by Dennis Abukuse, and with a successful conversion, Kenya stretched its lead to 19-7.
US’s superstar Channel earned his brace just after Ooro’s, and a successful conversion meant the Americans reduced the gap on the scoreline to 19-14.
Abukuse’s effort made sure that the US did not equalise as his action forced a lineout that shifted the momentum in favour of Kenya.
