Guinea-Bissau President visits Kenya
Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco is expected to visit the country today.
He will be hosted by President William Ruto at State House in Nairobi.
The two are expected to hold talks on, among other topics, how to strengthen the existing bilateral ties between the two countries.
CJ Koome’s security detail
More reactions to the withdrawal of Chief Justice Martha Koome’s security detail are expected today.
This comes even after Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen assured Kenyans that there was no cause for alarm as the majority of the CJ’s security team was still working.
“For the comfort of the country, the Chief Justice is one of the public officers who are properly taken care of in terms of her security.
“I know the manual says that she is entitled to six police officers, but the Chief Justice has been given up to 32 police officers.
“Of the 32, only the ones who were promoted and called to go for training were three of them she was concerned about. Unfortunately, that misunderstanding, and ordinarily, the Chief Justice should have called the IG to say thank you for promoting my officers,” Murkomen explained.
CJ Koome had written a letter to CS Murkomen, protesting the move noting that it translated to Executive interference with the Judiciary.
“I express profound concern over the withdrawal of security for the Chief Justice, an act that undermines judicial independence, threatens institutional integrity, and endangers democratic progress. The withdrawal of this security detail is an egregious affront to the principle of separation of powers,” Koome wrote.
