Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
Weatherman
It’s going to be a wet weekend for many parts of the country if the weatherman’s prediction is anything to go by.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has predicted that parts of the country will experience more rainfall in the coming days, with isolated storms.
The weatherman forecast heavy downpours in southern and central Rift Valley, southeast lowlands, parts of western Kenya, Lake Victoria basin, and central highlands, including Nairobi for a period of seven days – January 16 to 22, 2024.
KPL
Football Kenya Federation Premier League kicks off on week 19 with four matches lined up for today.
The highlight of today’s matches will be a clash between league leaders Gor Mahia and third-placed Tusker FC.
Gor Mahia, the defending champions, are the only side yet to lose a single game this term, and on the other hand, Tusker have managed to stabilise and break into the top three.
K’ogallo sit comfortably on top of the league with a seven-point lead ahead of second-placed Nairobi City Stars.
A win for Tusker will take them rise to the second place with 34 points while Gor’s win will see them widen the gap to a double digit of 10 points.
In other matches, Bandari face off with Karionangi Sharks, KCB clash with Muhoroni Youth while Shabana take on Ulinzi Stars.
Africa Cup of Nations
Round two of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group matches continue today with six national teams up in action.
Algeria take on Burkina Faso who currently lead group D with three points having hammered Mauritania 1-0 in their opening match.
The Desert Foxes are desperate for a win after a surprise 1-1 draw against Angola in their opener.
The other group D match features Mauritania and Angola. The North Africans need a win to revive any hope of qualifying for the knockout round.
A win for Angola will see them amass four points and stand a better chance of qualifying ahead of their last match against Burkina Faso.
The final match on Saturday will see Tunisia take on Mali who together with Namibia lead Group E with three points each.
Following their shock defeat to Nambia in round one, Tunisia are at risk of failing to make it out of the group stage for the first time since 2013 as they take on a much stronger Mali.
A win for Mali will see them qualify for the knockout stage with a match to spare.
