Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has condemned content creators making fun of and mocking the facial appearance of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s son, Raila Odinga Junior.

The son of the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader has been in the limelight lately, following the death of the former PM, becoming a target of a section of content creators on social media who jumped on a challenge to imitate his physical appearance.

Two years ago, Raila Junior opened up about a medical condition that left him paralysed on the right side of his face.

Revealing in an interview with Kisumu-based media, Junior said that he suffers from a noncancerous brain tumour, which developed at a young age.

He dismissed people’s assumption that he suffers from Bell’s palsy – an unexplained episode of facial muscle weakness or paralysis.

Following this, Isaac Mwaura has called for a stop to the mockery towards Raila Odinga Junior.

”It’s very wrong to mock someone based on their appearance due to an inherent condition. It’s even horrendous to create a ‘challenge’ to body shame. Such behaviour reflects more on your poor character and upbringing in the name of content creation. Let’s be human for once,” Mwaura said.

Raila Junior rarely speaks about the condition, which is called acoustic schwannoma.

In his explanation, Raila Junior said, ‘What happens is that every human being has five ventricles that come streaming from the back of every human being.’

He said the pressure against his third ventricle, which controls the nerves on the right side of his face, caused the right side of his face to get paralysed.

Odinga’s children naming

Meanwhile, Raila Odinga’s spouse, Ida Odinga, has opened up about how they went about naming their four children, born during their 52-year marriage to the late statesman.

Speaking while eulogising his husband on Friday, October 17, 2025, Ida further shared advice on how parents should proceed while naming their children.

Ida Odinga confirmed that Raila Junior was named after his best friend and cousin, Raila Kembo, with whom Raila shared names.

The former Prime Minister died on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, while undergoing treatment in India.

He was granted a state burial on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at his Bondo home in Siaya County.
