A private healthcare provider in Kangundo is urging the Social Health Authority (SHA) to reconsider its subscription policy, which requires beneficiaries to pay for a whole year before accessing medical services.

Ngoo Sya Wendo, Healthcare Centre Coordinator, Richard Munyao, argues that this approach is unaffordable for many Kenyans, particularly the unemployed.

“We understand the importance of healthcare, but the current policy is unrealistic for many Kenyans. We propose that the government allow patients with a one-month subscription to access medical services,” Munyao said yesterday during the official opening of Ngoo Sya Wendo Healthcare Centre in Kangundo Constituency.

“This flexibility will enable more Kenyans to benefit from the program and receive timely medical attention.”

Munyao also expressed frustration with the delays in accreditation from the SHA, which has hindered the centre’s ability to provide services to the community.

“We applied for accreditation, but the process has been slow. We urge the SHA to fast-track the process so that residents can access quality healthcare services at our facility.”

The Ngoo Sya Wendo Healthcare Centre is operating 24 hours a day, providing much-needed healthcare services to the community.

Centre Director, Dr Vincent Kituku, said the facility was built to address the healthcare needs of the region and has acquired an ambulance to facilitate emergency transportation to hospitals.

“The ambulance will be available for the community’s use in emergency situations, including transportation to other healthcare facilities. We are committed to providing quality healthcare services to the people of Kangundo and beyond,” Dr. Kituku said.

By providing more flexible subscription options and fast-tracking accreditation, the SHA can ensure that more Kenyans have access to quality healthcare services.

The Ngoo Sya Wendo Healthcare Centre is poised to play a critical role in bridging the healthcare gap in the region, addressing the health needs of them.

“Our aim is to provide quality and affordable community-based healthcare for residents of Kangundo and neighbouring sub-counties, who have limited access to conventional hospitals due to their socio-economic status or geographical distance,” he added.
