Investigations launched after Wilson Airport plane accident

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has issued an update after a passenger plane veered off Wilson Airport.

In a press statement on Saturday, March 21, 2026, the authority confirmed that emergency response procedures were promptly activated, and the aircraft has since been secured.

At the same time, KCAA has announced that the site has been cordoned off to facilitate investigations by the Aircraft Accident Investigations Department (AAID).

“Emergency response procedures were promptly activated, and the aircraft has since been secured. The site has been cordoned off to facilitate investigations by the Aircraft Accident Investigations Department (AAID), in accordance with established aviation safety protocols,” KCAA stated.

In addition, in collaboration with relevant agencies, KCAA has announced various measures taken to uphold safety and regulatory standards.

“KCAA, in collaboration with relevant agencies, is ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to uphold safety and regulatory standards. The Authority reassures the public of its continued commitment to aviation safety, which remains our top priority,” read the statement in part.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has further confirmed that the plane experienced a hard landing upon arrival and subsequently veered off the runway.

The Wilson Airport incident

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) had confirmed that the passenger plane veered off the runway at Wilson Airport on Friday, March 20, 2026.

In an official statement, KAA said the incident occurred at 2055 hours.

In addition, KAA stated that the incident caused a temporary disruption, but all 39 passengers and crew escaped unharmed.

“This evening at 2055HRS, an aircraft with thirty-nine (39) passengers on board arriving from Kisumu International Airport veered off the runway at Wilson Airport,” the KAA statement reads.

“We wish to confirm that all passengers and crew are safe, with no injuries reported. The aircraft remains on site, and recovery efforts are currently underway.”

KAA added that airport operations at Wilson remain normal and reiterated its commitment.

“Airport operations at Wilson Airport remain normal. The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) remains fully committed to the highest standards of safety at all our airports,” KAA added.
