Institutions frustrating agency effort to harmonise education qualification

A number of institutions of higher learning and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Tvets) are frustrating efforts by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) to harmonise educational qualifications across board. 

KNQA said over the weekend that several universities and Tvets are yet to comply with the accreditation and registration of qualifications, that would enable the agency effectively crackdown on fake academic certificates. 

KNQA council chairman Kilemi Mwiria (pictured) said that although the council has made remarkable progress in harmonising and coordinating national qualifications, many institutions across the country are yet to comply with the authority’s regulations, two years after the commencement of the KNQA Act No. 22 of 2014 in January 2015.

Addressing a stakeholders’ workshop at Kisumu National Polytechnic, Mwiria said the government through KNQA has established the National Qualifications Information Management System, that is used to manage the Kenya National Learners Record Database.
