Inside 3 MoUs signed between Kenya and Mozambique
By Cynthia Lodite, March 26, 2026Kenya and Mozambique have signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
The agreements were signed on Thursday, March 26, 2026, during an official State Visit by the President of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo, at State House, Nairobi.
Speaking during the meeting at the State House, President William Ruto and the leaders had agreed to ensure the timely implementation of the agreements so that citizens of both nations can benefit.
The MoUs include: diplomatic training, research and capacity building; penitentiary and Prison services, which is aimed at improving standards in correctional services, and Cooperation in Youth and sports, focusing on youth development and sports collaboration.
“Hosted President Daniel Francisco Chapo of Mozambique at State House, Nairobi. We witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements and MoUs on diplomatic training, research and capacity building, correctional services, as well as youth development and sports collaboration,” Ruto stated.
“We agreed to ensure they are timely and effectively implemented so that our people derive maximum benefit from this partnership.”

Kenya, Mozambique bilateral ties
President Ruto also highlighted the bilateral ties between Kenya and Mozambique, noting that the cooperation extends to key sectors that drive shared growth.
The agreements also highlighted key sectors, which include integration, tourism, clean energy, and aviation as a vital enabler of trade and people-to-people relations, the blue economy and maritime cooperation.
Additionally, Ruto noted that the Kenya Kwanza administration is collaborating in counter-terrorism and the promotion of peace, security and stability, noting that the collective goal is to advance a shared vision for the prosperity of both nations and the continent.
State Visit
Chapo arrived in Kenya on Tuesday, for a state visit and was welcomed by the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, who announced it on his official X account on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
According to Mudavadi, President Francisco is in the country for a three-day working visit at the invitation of President William Ruto and is on his first visit to Kenya as Head of State.
“Kenya continues to strengthen its global partnerships, and today I welcomed H.E. Daniel Francisco Chapo, President of the Republic of Mozambique, on his arrival for a three-day working visit at the invitation of H.E. President @WilliamsRuto, his first visit to Kenya as Head of State,” Mudavadi said.
