If there is any team that is envisaged to play its lungs out in the 2020/2021 Football Kenya Federation/Betking Premier League, then that has to be the 1998 champions AFC Leopards.

Ingwe players must be rubbing their hands with glee after the club chairman Dan Shikanda announced that each of them will get a fully furnished house within Nairobi if the team breaks the 22-year jinx of failure to win the top flight league.

Shikanda, himself a legend of the team, said in no uncertain terms that the management will live up to its word if the team is crowned champions.

“Remember, the last time the team won the title was in 1998 which is an eternity for a club of AFC status.

I want to ask each and every player to stand up and be counted moving forward,”

Shikanda’s sentiments come up against a backdrop of a good performance posted by Leopards since the season kicked off on November 21, 2020.

Leopards, who are placed fourth in the table, kept their tails up by beating Posta Rangers 2-1 at the weekend with red-hot striker Elvis Rupia helping himself to one of the two goals.

Since returning back into the country from Zambia where he turned out for Power Dynamos, Rupia has been a revelation for Leopards with reports rife that big teams like TP Mazembe of Democratic Republic of Congo and Yanga of Tanzania are drooling over his services.

In the meantime, Tusker was doubtlessly the team of the weekend after they dislodged KCB from the top of the charts, thanks to a 1-0 win over Mathare United.

The win moved the Brewers to 23 points after playing 10 matches.

 On the other hand, KCB who settled for a scoreless draw with Ulinzi Stars on Saturday at Afraha Stadium, are a point adrift in the second position.

Like Tusker, defending champions Gor Mahia also had a fruitful weekend by beating Bandari 3-1 in Mombasa in a result which saw them move to the sixth position.

For Gor, it was just a matter of keeping the momentum after beating Zoo Kericho 3-0 only a few days after falling 1-0 to Vihiga United.

Against Bandari, Gor was a different preposition with Burundian Jules Ulimwengu scoring a brace.
