IG Kanja announces leadership changes at NPS
By Cynthia Lodite, June 10, 2026The Inspector-General of the National Police Service, Douglas Kanja, has announced new leadership changes at the National Police Service Unit affecting three officers.
In an official statement dated Wednesday, June 10, 2026, as seen by People Daily Digital, IG Kanja confirmed the deployment of the three officers following the approval by the National Police Service Board.
“This is to inform you that the National Police Service Board has approved the deployment of the following officers with immediate effect,” Kanja announced.
The Officers include Johanna Kiplangart Tonoy, who previously served as the Director of Operations, KPS; Fredrick Egesa Nyongesa, who has been serving in the General Service Unit; and Paul Maingo Mumo, who has been the Director of Quality Assurance.
Folowing the change of guard, Johanna Kiplangart Tonoy has been deployed to serves at the Commandant -General Service Unit.
On the other hand, Fredrick Egesa Nyongesa has been picked up as the new Deputy Commandant in the General Service Unit.
In addition, Paul Maingo Mumo will now serve the service in the capacity of Director Internal Affairs Unit.
According to the Inspector General of Police, the changes will take effect immediately.

Recent changes at NPS
The deployment to the services comes weeks after the National Police Service announced a series of changes affecting senior officers within the Kenya Police Service, in a move said to be aimed at strengthening operations in specialised units and at police headquarters.
In the changes announced by Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, several officers serving in the Police Elite Unit (PEU) and Recce Squad have been reassigned, while one senior officer has been directed to proceed on leave pending retirement.
According to the reshuffle, Mr. Noah Kirwa Maiyo has been transferred from his position as Commandant of the Presidential Escort Unit to the Kenya Police Headquarters under the Vigilance Department.
Mr. Juda Mathews Gwiyo, who has been serving as Deputy Commandant of the PEU, has been asked to proceed on leave pending retirement.
The changes also see Mr. William Sawe moved from his role as Commanding Officer of the Recce Sub Unit to take over as the new Commandant of the Presidential Escort Unit (PEU).
Mr. George Kirera has been transferred from the position of Staffing Officer Personnel at the PEU to serve as Deputy Commandant of the same unit.
