Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary (CS) Opiyo Wandayi has issued a stern warning to reluctant Kenya Power officials who sleep on their jobs. 

Speaking on Monday, December 23, 2024, Wandayi said the officials should take their work seriously and commit to serving the citizens. 

He affirmed that all officials should ensure that complaints are effectively addressed, respectfully and promptly. 

“Hawa wananchi ndio matajiri wa wafanyi kazi wa Kenya Power. Kwa sababu Kenya Power is a company owned largely by the government of Kenya and if you understand the responsibility to address issues of electricity in the country side please take your work seriously and respond to complaints by wananchi swiftly and promptly; address the issues raised by wananchi in a friendly basis,” he said. 

Additionally, the CS stated that Kenya Power employees should resign from their positions if they are unwilling to adhere to the requirements of effective service delivery. 

In the same breath, Wandayi emphasized that anyone who is incapable of helping President William Ruto to achieve his goal by serving Kenyans should quit their job.

“I will not condone or tolerate any form of excuse from officers of Kenya Power, and if you think this work is too much for you, please give way for others to come in and help the country, if you are stationed in the county, sub-county and are regarding yourself as the boss please take a walk. These people you see here are the employers of all of us,” he added. 

Further, the CS announced that his ministry will formulate radical changes aimed at enhancing efficient service delivery at the energy sector. 

He also revealed that he will be making more impromptu visits to Kenya Power offices across the country.

“As the new year begins, we will be seeing radical changes and I will be making impromptu visits to Kenya Power offices across the country, it is no longer going to be business as usual,” he said.
