IEBC owes 2022 general election service providers Ksh4.3B

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is owing the 2022 general election service providers Ksh4.3 billion, the electoral agency Deputy Chief Executive Officer Obadiah Keitany has said.
Keitany said the commission was yet to receive money from the National Treasury to offset the bills.
The cost was accumulated from the conduct of general elections and by-elections; facilitation of observation, monitoring, and evaluation of elections; processing referendum requests for Okoa Kenya, Punguza Mzigo, and Building Bridges Initiative among others.
“The commission is in dire need of funding to pay its general election suppliers as well as prepare for future constitutional and statutory activities.
“We seek the Committee’s support in obtaining the necessary funding to enable IEBC to meet its constitutional mandate” Marjan Hussein Marjan, IEBC CEO, told Senate Committee on Monday, April 3.
He, however, assured the committee that the outstanding amounts would be paid once Treasury releases funds, adding that pending bills arose from low budgetary allocation and budget cuts.
