IEBC drops case challenging Simba Arati candidature

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Kisii governor seat candidate Simba Arati has been exonerated by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Dispute Resolution Committee.

This is after the committee threw away two cases challenging his academic credentials.

The committee said the Dagoreti Noth Member of Parliament has a valid degree from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology.

“We have evidence and documents from Parliament that Arati has a degree certificate from the institution. We, therefore, seek to withdraw the complaint herein,” Peter Wanyama, Arati’s lawyer, told the committee.

Wanyama produced in court a valid degree certificate and a Masters’s Degree the politician obtained from the university and also a confirmation from the Kenya National Examination Council.

Two voters, Moses Ayieko and Wesley Obwang’i, had earlier claimed Arati does not have the requisite educational qualifications to vie for the seat in August polls.
