The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has moved to allay fears that voter registration details are missing on its portal.

In a statement on Sunday, July 6, 2025, the electoral commission assured Kenyans that all the data from the 2022 General Election was still intact.

“We wish to assure all Kenyans that the registration details of the 22,120,458 registered voters, as recorded during the 2022 General Election, remain intact and secure,” IEBC stated.

The statement came after a section of Kenyans online raised concerns over missing voter registration details. Some went on to share screenshots of the information they were getting by trying to verify their details on the IEBC portal.

System maintenance

While giving assurance to Kenyans, IEBC announced that its voter verification portal is undergoing scheduled maintenance as part of the commission’s efforts to improve its services ahead of future electoral processes.

“The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) wishes to inform the public that it is currently undertaking a scheduled system maintenance on its voter verification portal. This essential maintenance is part of ongoing migration to new infrastructure aimed at enhancing services delivery through system performance and security,” the statement read in part.

The Commission apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their patience during this period. They have promised to inform Kenyans as soon as the portal is back online and fully operational.

Strengthening trust through transparency

The Commission emphasised its commitment to protecting voter data and ensuring transparency in all its operations. This maintenance comes at a time when Kenya’s electoral body is working to strengthen trust in the democratic process. The voter verification portal is a critical tool, allowing citizens to check their registration status and ensure their details are correct before elections.

By upgrading the system, the IEBC is taking steps to make the portal more user-friendly and secure, which could help increase public confidence in the electoral system. The IEBC has advised Kenyans to stay updated through its official website and social media platforms. For further inquiries, the public can contact the Manager of Communications and Corporate Affairs via email.

Kenyans are encouraged to keep an eye on official channels for updates on when the voter verification portal will be fully operational again. This move by the IEBC is a step towards modernising Kenya’s electoral infrastructure, ensuring it meets the needs of a growing and dynamic democracy.
