Kipyegon was thrilled and emotional as she reacted to the government’s prize, saying she was glad she could finally give his father a car after promising to do so if she smashed a world record.

“I am so happy with the reward now I can own a house in Nairobi. something that I was not expecting. And for the money, I buy my father a car,” Kipyegon said at Statehouse.

“I promised him that if I broke the world record, I was going to buy him a car. Now I can fulfil my promise to him,” she added.

Faith Kipyegon achievements

Kipyegon broke the women’s 1,500 meters world record on June 2 at the Florence Diamond League in Italy and then broke the women’s 5,000 meters world record a week later in the Paris Diamond League in France.

Kipyegon, a fantastic middle-distance runner who specializes in the 1,500 meters, has already made sports history.

She has firmly established herself as one of the best female athletes of all time, with back-to-back Olympic championships, many world titles, and world records.

Her recent world records in the 1,500 and 5,000 meters have established new benchmarks for future generations of runners.

Kipyegon’s accomplishments go beyond her astounding records. She has continuously demonstrated extraordinary talent, winning a number of competitions and awards.

Ruto promise

During the event at Statehouse, Ruto made an exciting announcement that athletes who break world records in international events will be awarded a sum of 5 million Kenyan shillings.

Addressing the gathering, Ruto expressed the government’s recognition of the exceptional performances by Kenyan athletes on the global stage.

He emphasised the importance of acknowledging their hard work and dedication to sports. In the past, such achievements often went unrecognised, leaving athletes to face challenges in their later lives despite having brought glory to the nation.

This gesture by the government serves as a reprieve for athletes who have faced difficulties in their post-athletics careers despite representing Kenya with distinction.

The substantial financial reward aims to honour and support those athletes who push the boundaries of human achievement and bring pride to the nation.
