Hopes high as CS unveils varsities for 2020 learners
The 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam candidates will know the universities and colleges they have been placed in from today.
Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (Kuccps) has now completed the exercise and Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha is expected to launch the results of placement this morning.
Kuccps chief executive Dr Agnes Wahome said this follows the conclusion of revision of courses and universities choices on July 23.
“We are keen on concluding the process and releasing the outcome to all applicants by mid-August,” Wahome had assured the learners last month.
The application and revision of choices was in its third and final round and was scheduled to close on July 17 but Kuccps extended it by a week to mobilise more applicants and ensure no eligible candidate was left behind.
Preferred courses
By mid July, out of the 142,540 candidates who obtained the minimum university entry mean grade of C+ plus and above, 131,833 candidates or 92.5 per cent applied for their preferred courses in local public and private universities and TVET colleges.
A total of 4,359 candidates took advantage of the extension and revised their degree choices.
In total, over 90 per cent of all candidates who qualified for degree courses had applied by mid last month.
Since May, Kuccps has been rallying all the 2020 KCSE examination candidates to apply for placement to universities and colleges for sponsorship in artisan, certificate, diploma or degree courses of their choice.
Placement body also targeted secondary school graduates with any mean grade from the year 2000 to 2020 for placement and government sponsorship to TVET institutions.
Last month, Kuccps said it noted reluctance in some regions where there was a mentality that completing Form Four was the end of education hence many of their candidates qualified for university but failed to apply.
The most affected were Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Turkana, Marsabit, West Pokot, Lamu and Kilifi counties.
