South Mugirango Member of Parliament (MP) Silvanus Osoro has shared details of the last moments of slain MP Charles Were’s life.

Speaking during the requiem mass of the late legislator at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Osoro detailed that prior to his death, he met with the lawmaker at the gym accompanied by his Ruiru counterpart Simon Ng’ang’a where they usually work out at 6 am before starting the day.

He noted that the slain MP was in high spirits and shared his plans for the day.

“That morning before Were passed on myself and my colleague who is member for Ruiru were training at the gym at around 6 am; he was in high spirits giving us a plan on how he intends to run around the politics of the day,” Osoro said.

Osoro went on to state that the MP, who had been lively on the morning of his death, retreated to a corner, lost in thought during the parliamentary proceedings at 4 pm, almost as if he was aware of what was to occur two hours later.

According to the lawmaker, this was contrary to his normal behaviour and composure, he added that the MP has never had issues with his fellow colleagues since his election.

“Later, he sat at a corner fro about 4 pm, he wasn’t looking very okay, he was so disturbed, any person who passed by him can agree he wasn’t the normal way that we all knew him.

“We have interacted with Were in several occasions all through from 2017 and I must confess he did not have any issues with the office colleagues; he has never had any squabble with any MP that we served with. He used to frequent my office severally, the last occasion he came with MP Rosa Buyu and we had a deep discussion,” he said.

As a sombre mood and silence reigned supreme, Osoro issued his condolences to the family, urging them to stay strong in the Lord. He also addressed the government and the security agencies calling on them to intensify efforts in catching the mastermind behind the MP’s brutal death.

He, however, appreciated the security agencies for the strides they have undertaken so far by apprehending four suspects in the incident.

“To the family, be strong God is with you, but to the government and security agencies we appreciate the efforts you have put so far in apprehending the four suspects, but I ask you that you still haven’t brought the real culprit, we need to know who exactly sent those young men to murder our colleague, who sent the suspects? That is the question we have,” Osoro added.
