Haji: Waiguru Sh10m case requires further investigation
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ordered the anti-graft agency to undertake further investigations into the Sh10 million graft case involving Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru (pictured).
In a statement, the DPP said it had returned the investigations file to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to seal some holes before prosecution starts.
EACC had accused Waiguru and other senior officials of receiving fictitious imprests amounting to over Sh10 million from the county government for non-existent trips.
The DPP, Noordin Haji , through one of his deputies, Grace Murungi, said his office received the file, in which EACC had recommended to have Waiguru and a number of officers in the county to be charged over fraudulent acquisition of public property and abuse of office, but after perusal, the persecutors found gaps that needed to be filled.
Haji said his office “bears a Constitutional mandate to ensure that in every case, investigations are completed and the evidential and legal thresholds are met before making a decision to charge”.
Murungi said EACC had acknowledged receipt of the letter and was acting on the areas identified for investigations.
