Govt starts erecting Junction Flyover to address traffic near Talanta Stadium
By Kiprono Keileb, October 28, 2025Nairobi’s traffic nightmare could soon ease as the government nears completion of the Junction Mall Flyover, a landmark project under its infrastructure modernisation programme aimed at transforming movement within the capital and near the upcoming Talanta Hela Stadium.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the new flyover, which stretches 120 metres and features an impressive 255-metre steel structure, will drastically reduce congestion at one of Nairobi’s busiest intersections.
“The Capital, Nairobi City, is home to continental headquarters, diplomatic missions and major international institutions. With this comes the challenge of congestion, as thousands of vehicles navigate its arteries daily,” Omollo said.

He noted that maintaining Nairobi’s global status requires consistent investment in transport infrastructure that is modern, efficient, and safe.
“To sustain Nairobi’s role as a regional powerhouse, investments in modern, efficient and safe road infrastructure have become essential,” he added.
According to Omollo, the Junction Mall Flyover is not just about easing traffic; it represents a long-term investment in the city’s growth and functionality.
“The ongoing construction of the Junction Mall Flyover is a critical intervention under the government’s infrastructure modernisation programme,” he stated.

The project includes four lanes on top and six lanes below, with 23 traffic lights strategically installed to enhance safety and efficiency.
“This design will ensure smooth navigation for all users and a seamless flow of vehicles across the major intersection,” Omollo explained.
He revealed that engineers are preparing to lift the massive steel structure into place within the next three weeks, marking a key step toward the project’s completion.
Beyond easing traffic, Omollo highlighted that the flyover will improve access to key infrastructure, including the upcoming Talanta Stadium.
“Upon completion, the flyover will also ease mobility to and from the iconic, upcoming Talanta Stadium, ensuring seamless access while blending sporting excellence and smart infrastructure,” he said.

The project has also provided jobs to hundreds of locals. “The development is already changing lives, with over 150 people directly employed on-site, earning livelihoods and sharpening their skills in various technical fields,” Omollo noted.
Once complete, the Junction Mall Flyover is expected to stand as a symbol of Nairobi’s modernisation and a significant step toward solving the city’s chronic traffic congestion.
