The government has announced plans to fast-track the rollout of high-speed broadband as part of a renewed push to accelerate Kenya’s digital economy and close connectivity gaps in underserved areas.

In a statement posted on his X account on Friday, January 30, 2026, ICT Principal Secretary John Tanui said the move is anchored on the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project, which he described as a transformative initiative.

“The Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP) will transform Kenya by expanding high-speed broadband to underserved areas, digitising government services, strengthening digital skills, enabling last-mile connectivity, and improving data governance,” he stated.

He noted that fast-tracking the project’s implementation is critical to unlocking jobs, accelerating inclusive economic growth and positioning Kenya as a competitive regional digital hub at a time when digital infrastructure is increasingly central to economic resilience and innovation.

“Fast-tracking its implementation is critical to unlocking jobs, accelerating inclusive economic growth, and positioning Kenya as a competitive regional digital hub,” Tanui added.
