PS Omollo: Gov’t has deployed over 60,000 officers ahead of KPSEA, KCPE exams
Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo on Saturday announced that the government has deployed more than 60,000 police officers across the country in preparation for the KPSEA and KCPE exams set to start on Monday, October 30, 2023.
The PS while speaking at St George’s Primary School in Nairobi on Saturday, October 28, 2023, stated that the move is meant to ensure the smooth running of the national exams.
“The Ministry of Interior plays a vital and critical role in the execution of the task, supporting the Ministry of Education (MoE) in coordination, logistics and provision of security during the examination exercise,” Omollo said.
PS Omollo also said that security had been tightened across the North Rift areas owing to the spate of banditry attacks witnessed in the region. This, the PS says will create an enabling environment to encourage the success of the students.
“Exams will go on in Kapindasum and Baringo, we have contained the volatility in that belt despite recent attacks,” the PS added.
At the same time, the PS acknowledged that the State had installed command centres at the KNEC headquarters, the Communications Authority of Kenya and the Ministry of Interior to enable responses to any insecurity cases that may arise during the period.
Additionally, the PS also announced that the Ministry of Education was working closely with ICT to monitor phone and social media activities in efforts to curb examination malpractice.
“To curb technology-enabled malpractices, the MoE is equally working closely with that of ICT to monitor phone and social media activities,” the PS said.
