Govt deploys extra forces to deal with Lamu insecurity – PS Kibicho

Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho has said that the government has deployed additional forces in the Boni forest to deal with the suspected Alshabab militants.

Speaking on Tuesday, January 11 in Mombasa, Kibicho said that the insecurity issue in Lamu and its environs is something the country will have to deal with for a long time before a lasting solution is arrived at.

“The issue of the Alshabab threat and the issue of insecurity threat in that area is something that we shall have live with for a very long time,” Kibicho said.

The PS said that in order to ensure the security of Kenyans living the area, his ministry has made certain that security forces in the area are vigilant.

“All we need to do is to ensure that our security forces are vigilant and continue repulsing these fellows who want to cause mayhem in our country,” Kibicho said.

The PS further stated that Lamu has been declared as part of the area featured in the ongoing security operation to root out the Alshabab militants.

“If you pay attention to the security operation going on around the area you will realize that it is massive and we expect in a very short time, Lamu will be calm,” Kibicho said.
