Gor Mahia’s assistant coach vows full focus ahead of Mathare clash

By , October 30, 2025

Gor Mahia’s assistant coach Kobi Bismark-Mensah has stated that the team will go into Thursday, October 30, 2025’s match against Mathare United with full focus as they target a fourth straight win in the FKF Premier League.

The game kicks off at 4:00 pm at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Gor come into the fixture after a dominant 3-0 win over Posta Rangers at Nyayo Stadium, while Mathare beat Shabana 1-0 away in Kisii last weekend. Both sides therefore enter the meeting with confidence and momentum.

Bismark-Mensah emphasised that Gor Mahia will treat the fixture seriously and rely on proper preparation.

“We are going to approach it with all seriousness,” he said. “Proper preparation prevents poor performance. Mathare are a good side, but we are also a very good side with experience and exposure.”

Trust in player quality

He made it clear that although he respects Mathare’s qualities, he trusts his squad to deliver.

“I have watched Mathare more than five times. They are a good team, but I don’t think they can play better than us,” he said. “We only need to play above ourselves if we want to win.”

The assistant coach confirmed that only Luis Bandy remains out, with the rest of the squad fit and available. He also addressed the decision to rest forward Alpha in their last match.

“Alpha had a bit of fatigue because he has been playing almost a season without rest,” he said. “We rested him not because of performance. We will see if he starts tomorrow. We don’t want to rush him and risk a setback.”

Gor sit fourth on the league table with nine points after recovering from an opening-day loss to Bidco United. Mathare are eighth with seven points and have kept three clean sheets so far.

The fixture carries history and competition, with 43 past league meetings between the two sides. Gor have won 17 of them, Mathare 12, and 14 have ended level.
