Kenyan champions Gor Mahia yesterday terminated the contract of celebrated Kenyan striker Dennis Oliech over serious and persistent cases of misconduct including a campaign poster appearing on social media.

The club cited Oliech’s poor performance on the pitch and unexplained absence from training without permission from the club as reasons for his premature ouster from the record Kenyan champions.

K’Ogalo did not take kindly to Oliech’s use of club jersey bearing Gor’s crest in a campaign poster released by the player yesterday and promptly gave him the sack, six months since making his debut for the club.

 Newly-appointed coach Steven Polack never got the chance to see him in training as he has stayed away since spraining his hand in Kisumu four months ago. Polack, a strict disciplinarian, may have applied pressure on the club to avail Oliech as he was short-handed for continental matches.

 A club source revealed to People Daily that Oliech routinely avoided calls from club officials, causing heartache. It was, however, the campaign poster that forced their hand.

“In pursuance of the provisions of Clause 6 of your Player Agreement Contract entered into with Gor Mahia Football Club, we hereby write to advise you that we have terminated your contract with immediate effect on grounds of Just Cause as also stipulated in FIFA Article 14 Regulations of the Statues and Transfer of Players,” the sacking letter stated. 

 “You are and have been guilty of serious misconduct and continued poor performance on the field of play especially you have without reason therefore and without prior permission from the Head Coach, the Team Manager or any other duly authorised Club Official absented yourself on numerous diverse days from training thereby denying the club the opportunity to field you as a striker,” the club added.
