Go for Covid billionaires too – Ndindi Nyoro tells DCI after Gachagua’s graft case

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has taken a swipe against the Directorate of Criminal Investigations over what he termed as a selective application of the criminal justice system.

Addressing journalists in Nairobi, Nyoro said that the DCI often comes up with trumped up charges against leaders inclined towards a certain political leaning.

“DCI can throw an obnoxious figure and accuse you of stealing a road, like Uhuru or Kenyatta Highway and you are told that what you have stolen is Ksh20 billion so that when you go to court they raise the threshold of the kind of bond you should pay, Nyoro said.

He further claimed that the recent graft charges that saw Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua spend the weekend in police cells were the same charges he and other MP’s allied to Deputy President William Ruto faced.

“I would like to tell DCI, since you’ve begun with Rigathi, also go for KEMSA billionaires, even those who are family members of the leadership in this country so that even them can be charged in court,” Nyoro said.

The Kiharu MP further accused the government of targeting members of the Hustler Nation who support DP Ruto’s bid for Presidency come 2022.

“I have good news for the hustler’s nation. Most of us are the sons of Mau Mau. We cannot be cowardly or intimidated by Cerelac and Sausage kids. We came to Nairobi prepared to secure the future of our country, of our children!” Nyoro said.

Nyoro’s accusations against the DCI comes after Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji said there is enough evidence to prove Gachagua swindled money meant for development at his Mathira constituency.

Speaking to local television on Monday night Haji said he is satisfied with the information provided by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti regarding MP Gachagua’s corruption case.

“To be honest, in this case involving Honorable Gachagua, we are convinced that the evidence provided by DCI Kinoti is sufficient and that is why the case is in court. We are confident that we will prove before the court that the MP swindled money from his constituency,” Haji said.

He also defended his office against political attacks that have been directed at his office when prosecuting corruption cases.

According to Haji, his office does not investigate cases but relies on evidence brought before it by the DCI.

He says his work is simply to determine whether the evidence provided is convincing enough to take the accused to court.
