Gloria Orwoba protests after being denied access to the Senate

Ousted nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba staged a protest at the Senate gate after being denied entry into the chambers.

On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, as the Senate heard the impeachment case of Kericho Governor Erick Mutai, Orwoba took to her social media platforms, sharing a video in which she expressed frustration over being blocked from accessing the chamber.

She said she had been barred despite holding a court order granting her partial reinstatement.

According to her, more than 50 police officers had been deployed to stop her, with one female officer specifically assigned to arrest her.

Orwoba described the Senate sitting discussing the Kericho Governor’s impeachment as illegal, arguing that Consolata Wakwabubi, who was recently sworn in to replace her, was a stranger in the House.

She insisted that Wakwabubi’s swearing-in was unlawful and therefore invalidated the proceedings.

“As long as the lady called Consolata Wakwabubi is sitting in the Senate even now, that sitting is illegal. That is a stranger in the flow of the house; there is no impeachment that is going on with a stranger in the flow of the house.”

She further argued that any decision on the impeachment motion could later be nullified by the courts on the basis that an illegitimate member was present during the deliberations.

“That will be a basis of an appeal of whatever outcome that will come out of the impeachment, because they have a stranger on the floor of the house,” she added.

Senate irregularities

Orwoba added that, despite the day being a gazetted Katiba day, the Senate Speaker proceeded with what she termed an illegal sitting. She told Kericho residents that the process seeking to remove their governor from office was flawed since it was being conducted with an unlawfully sworn-in member taking part in the proceedings.

“And the speaker of the senate, Amason Kingi, continues to entertain illegalities. After Katiba Day, in fact, the people of Kericho should know they are being shortchanged because what is happening inside the senate is illegal since there is a stranger sitting inside the senate purportedly sitting and thinking that she is executing an impeachment. The people of Kericho should know that,” she concluded.
