Gachagua reveals how he will reimburse money collected for Affordable Housing projects back to Kenyans

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to scrap the housing levy and hand over the ongoing affordable housing programme to county governments for management if elected as president in 2027.

While speaking during a church service in Nyeri on Sunday, September 14, 2025, he said Kenyans will no longer be overburdened with the housing levy.

He further stated that after the scrapping of the housing levy that was put in place by the current regime and the units being given to counties for management, the counties will collect rent from the houses and pay back the money collected to any Kenyan who has been contributing to the said fund.

He went ahead to express his fury at how the payslip of Kenyans has been raided by the current regime, with their salaries being deducted by the tax man, saying that as things stand now, Kenyans have no purchasing power.

“I will restore the dignity of the payslip on the first day by scrapping the housing levy and handing over all those houses to the county governments to manage them and collect rent and pay rent to all those whose money was deducted,” Gachagua said.

Presidency

He told the congregants that he has now decided to begin his journey to the presidency in Mt Kenya since most Kenyans have endorsed him as the most suitable person who will take Ruto home and that he is now seeking final blessings from his fellow tribesmen before embarking on the long journey.

“I came home yesterday to ask for blessings before I begin this journey. As I started this journey, I needed blessings from home,” he said.

He told the congregants that should he be elected president in 2027, he would not overpromise Kenyans on what he intends to deliver, since the economy, according to the former DP, is performing poorly with the debt now capped at Ksh 12 trillion.

Emulating Kibaki

He further stated that the only thing he would do for Kenya is to restore the country to where the late President Mwai Kibaki left it in 2013.

He also added that he would restore the healthcare system, with his administration ensuring that hospitals are well stocked with drugs and that the medical insurance scheme is functional.

“I don’t want to promise the country lies that I will build roads, dams, or electricity projects if Kenyans elect me as president. I don’t want to promise lies to the people of Kenya.”

“I only want to restore the Kenyan state to where Mwai Kibaki left us, and a few things we want to do include restoring the healthcare system so that when we go to hospitals, there are drugs, and restoring the education system with the free education that Kibaki left,” he said.
