Gachagua mourns distinguished scholar Prof Raphael Munavu

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has penned a tribute following the death of scholar Professor Raphael Munavu, describing him as a towering figure in Kenya’s academic and policy landscape.

In a condolence message on Sunday, April 26, 2026, the former deputy president said he had received news of Prof Munavu’s passing “with great sadness,” joining Kenyans in mourning what he termed the loss of a national icon and a distinguished scholar.

Prof. Munavu, a Professor Emeritus at the University of Nairobi, was hailed as a progressive educationist who successfully bridged academia and public policy.

“Prof. Munavu was a progressive educationist who bridged academia and public policy in the service of humanity,” Gachagua said, adding that the late scholar had significantly shaped Kenya’s education, science, and policy sectors.

“He will be remembered for his distinguished service across the many institutions he led and strengthened. He was a true patriot who served Kenya with unwavering dedication,” he said.

Gachagua extended his condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late professor, wishing them strength and peace during the period of mourning.

“Kenya has lost a distinguished academic, a leader of rare intellect and exceptional character,” he added, concluding with prayers for eternal rest.
