Relief at the pump as EPRA announces new fuel prices

By , June 14, 2024

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority has today announced a decrease in the maximum retail price of petroleum products effective from June 15 to July 14, 2024.

Drop in fuel prices

In the announcement, Super Petrol drops by Ksh3 per litre, Diesel drops by Ksh6.08 per litre while Kerosene sees a Ksh5.71 drop, marking a drop in fuel prices for the second consecutive month.

“In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump price for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene decrease by Ksh3.00 per litre, Ksh6.08 per litre and Ksh5.71 per litre respectively,” the statement reads.

The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

The regulatory commission cited the drop in retail prices to a fall in prices on the international market. In the statement by EPRA, the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreased by 1.95% from US$765.87 per cubic metre in April 2024 to US$750.95 per cubic metre in May 2024.

The price of diesel registered a 3.92% fall, from US$719.21 per cubic metre to US$690.99 per cubic metre in the same duration while Kerosene recorded the highest decrease of 6.84% from US$728.97 per cubic metre to US$679.14 per cubic metre.
