An American missionary told an Eldoret court yesterday that he was shocked to learn about the gruesome murder of his foster son Edwin Kiptoo, alias Chiloba.

Peter Pfantzgraff, whose missionary work is based in Mumias town, Kakamega County, also told the court that he did not know the other side of the late LGBTQ activist.

He told Justice Reuben Nyakundi that he decided to enrol in his sponsorship programme that has other partners from the US after he was impressed by the work of the then-final year interior design and fashion student of the University of Eldoret on his Facebook page.

The missionary narrated to the court how he contacted Kiptoo on his Facebook page and later arranged a meeting.

“I used to pay for the studies of the student from first year to fourth year including his upkeep,” said the missionary.

The missionary was testifying in a case in which Jacktone Odhiambo, a professional photographer is accused of killing Chiloba.

Pfantzgraff recounted how he and his wife used to invite the student to their Mumias home during the December holidays.

The missionary said that on December 23, 2022, Chiloba visited him accompanied by Odhiambo whom he introduced as a friend.
