Former National Police Service Spokesperson Charles Owino on Thursday, August 19, handed over the communication office to his successor at the Kenya Police Headquarters, Nairobi.
The handing over ceremony comes two days after Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai appointed Bruno Shisio as the new spokesperson.
Shisio brings a wealth of experience having served as a police commissioner attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Announcing the appointment on Tuesday, August 17, IG Mutyambai said the new police spokesperson was picked from the United Nations Police (UNPOL) where he was a team leader of the Serious and Organised Crime Team (SOC Team) within the Mission Management and Support Section.
The SOC team is instrumental in supporting police components within peace operations and special political missions with the necessary tools and skills to adequately enhance the institutional capacities and operational capabilities of host nations on organized crime.
Shisio will be tasked with protecting the image of service and maintaining good rapport with the public on matters involving the police service.
Owino was transferred on May 11, to the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons (KNFP) as a Deputy Director.
He is the longest-serving spokesperson in the history of police service.
Pundits argued that his transfer was occasioned by his declaration that he will vie for Siaya Gubernatorial seat in the 2022 General Elections.
He said he will quit office in December to focus on his political ambitions.
