Former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has resigned as Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism.

Announcing his resignation on Thursday, Boinnet said he will vie for Elgeyo Marakwet governor seat.

“Today’s assignment is the last because I am tendering my resignation to seek a leadership position in the county where I was born and brought up,” Boinnet said.

He added: “I am going for the seat of Governor Elgeyo Marakwet. I wanted to thank this committee personally for the work we have done together over time.”

According to the law, all public servants who are seeking elective positions must resign six months before general election.

“I am grateful to my boss CS Najib Balala with whom we have worked closely for a while. I have heeded to the call of my people to serve them as governor,” he said.

Boinnet will be seeking to succeed governor Alex Tolgos, who is completing his second and final term in office.
