Former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti has been thrown into mourning following the death of his mother.

The passing of Kivuti’s mom has been confirmed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while on a campaign trail in Mbeere North on Monday, November 17, 2025.

Gachagua informed the crowd that Kivuti was unable to join the opposition team on its second day of campaigns in the county.

“We were to come here with Kivuti, but today in the morning God has rested his mum. So he has not been able to join us. He has requested we pray for him,” Gachagua told the residents.

“He has, however, told me that one way to wipe his tears and sorrow is by voting for Newton Karish. Will you vote for Karish?” He posed.

In an address via Gachagua’s phone to the residents, Kivuti confirmed the news about the transition, adding that they had started plans for laying his beloved mom to rest.

Kivuti further used the opportunity to implore the crowds to rally behind the opposition candidate.

Members of the opposition outfit have been the first to condole with the former senator, with former Attorney General Justin Muturi expressing his condolences.

News of Kivuti’s mum’s demise comes barely a year after the ex-senator’s family laid their son, Eric Mutugi, to rest on January 3, 2025.

Mutugi, an IT guru and a son of Kivuti and his wife, Hildah Kivuti, died in December, 23, 2024, with President William Ruto among the leaders who condoled with the family then.

“I join the family of Hon. Lenny Kivuti in mourning the tragic loss of his beloved son, Eric Mutugi. I pray for the Kivuti family during this immensely difficult time. Eric’s light and promise have been taken far too soon. May God grant the family and friends strength, comfort, and peace,” Ruto stated.
