Former AFC staff sentenced to three years for theft
Two former employees of Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) Eldoret branch will serve three years in prison after they were found guilty of stealing Sh20 million from the State agency.
The convicts, Vincent Rotich and Rose Cheboi are said to have stolen the amount while serving as employees of the state agency.
They were sentenced by Eldoret Chief Magistrate Dennis Mikoyani after being found guilty of obtaining the money unlawfully.
“I find that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that you indeed stole the money and therefore both of you will serve a jail term of three year each,” ruled Mikoyani.
The convicts were found guilty of ten counts including stealing by servant and forgery of finance transaction documents as employees of AFC.
Linked to theft
During the hearing of the case, the court heard that the two were arrested six years ago by police detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Unit at Eldoret Central Police station after they were linked to the theft of the money.
