The Kenya football caretaker committee has declared that it has not reneged on its pledge to give subsidies to National Super League (NSL) teams as well as referees.

During a press briefing yesterday,  the league and clubs competitions committee Chairman Ali Amroun said the committee will ensure that all clubs vis-a-vis-match officials are catered for during their  six-month tenure before a new Football Kenya Federation is put in place.

Amroun said the referees’ payment would be wired to their bank accounts by Friday  to be received by Monday next week.

“The committee’s modus operandi may have been somewhat baffling since we rarely speak but things are moving,” said Amroun.

The official made the sentiments even as he announced that each of the participating teams have already received the first quota of Sh 300,000 promised by the committee, adding that the Women Premier League teams have also benefited from the subsidy.

He said the sum was not an entitlement merely to sustain the clubs most of which have been running on a shoestring budget,

“CAF Licensing rules dictate that each of the clubs must be financially stable tiu run their activities and what we are doing is to enable them to stay afloat.

Concerns raised

He further said the committee is in the process of reviewing the allocation to community clubs and which has by and large been regarded as a penchant.

“We acknowledge the concerns raised by the teams and I can only say we shall sit down as a committee and chart the way forward,” he said

Flanked by the committee’s competitions and league committee vice chairman Anthony Isayo, Amroun said it will be imperative for each club to comply with the Sports Act ahead of the change of hands in the federation.

In the meantime, Amroun refuted claims that the committee intends to hire former Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche for the same job to replace Engin Firat who was in the books of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) that has since been disbanded by the government.
